FirmTape levels in ATAS
A chart indicator for ATAS that draws the flip, the walls and gamma by strike, live. These are measurements of dealer positioning, not trade signals: the plugin places no orders and raises no alerts.
The indicator (dll) is not published yet. It will be offered here, with its version and checksum, when it is.
What you need
- ATAS on Windows. Current builds run on .NET 8 or .NET 10; pick the matching DLL (below).
- A FirmTape account on the LIVE plan, and an integration token.
Get a token
- Hold the LIVE plan. The levels API and every integration are part of it.
- Open /account#integrations, section Integrations, and press Create integration token. Give it a name (for example the platform and the machine).
- Copy the token when it is shown: it starts
ftpl_and is shown once. It reads levels only; it cannot run LAB or spend credits.
Install
- Download
FirmTape.Atas.dllfor your platform's runtime (see "Which DLL"). - Either use Add custom indicator in the chart's indicator dialog and pick the DLL, or close ATAS and copy the DLL to
%APPDATA%\ATAS\Indicators(older builds usedDocuments\ATAS\Indicators). - If Windows marked the download as blocked: right-click the DLL, Properties, tick Unblock, OK.
- Start ATAS, open a chart, open Indicators, find FirmTape Levels under FirmTape and add it.
- Paste your token into API key. The levels appear within a few seconds.
Which DLL
ATAS builds run on either .NET 8 or .NET 10, and the version number in ATAS does not say which.
Look in the ATAS install folder (usually C:\Program Files (x86)\ATAS Platform) for a
*.runtimeconfig.json file: it names the runtime (net8.0 or net10.0).
Use the matching build. If the indicator does not show up in the list, the other build is the right one.
The token is saved inside your ATAS chart templates and workspace files in plain text. Clear the key field before sharing a template.
Settings
| Setting | Default | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| API key | empty | Your ftpl_ token. |
| Symbol override | empty | Empty follows the chart: ES and MES read ES, NQ and MNQ read NQ, a stock or ETF reads its ticker. Type SPX, SPY, QQQ and so on to force one. |
| Poll every (seconds) | 5 | Minimum 3. |
| Show labels | on | Price labels at the right end of each line. |
| Line width | 2 | Volume-book lines. |
| Show open-interest levels | off | Adds the open-interest book's flip and walls, dashed. |
| Open-interest line width | 1 | |
| Dim lines when STALE | on | Fades the lines while the reading is stale. |
| Show gamma profile | on | Gamma by strike at the right edge. |
| Book | Volume | Volume (as the terminal) or Open interest. |
| Width (pixels) | 140 | Length of the longest bar on screen. |
| Opacity (percent) | 55 | |
| Colours | #E0A040, #3FB950, #F85149 | Flip, call wall, put wall, positive and negative gamma. |
| Status line position | Top left | Top left, Bottom left or Hidden. |
| Show net gamma | on | Appends the book's net gamma to the status line. |
| Font size | 9 | Also used for the level labels. |
What is drawn
- The volume book's zero-gamma flip (amber), call wall (green) and put wall (red) as full-width lines with price labels at the right.
- Optionally the open-interest book's flip and walls as dashed lines.
- Gamma by strike as a histogram along the right edge, green positive, red negative.
- A status line, for example
FirmTape ES (ESZ26) volume book, basis +58.75, 12 s old, net gamma -812 $M/pt. When a request fails the last good lines stay on the chart, dimmed.
- Every level is FirmTape's volume book, the one the terminal draws; the open-interest book is the optional set.
- ES and NQ are the SPX and NDX books moved by the day's basis (the running median of the day's basis measurements from put-call parity, rounded to 0.25), exactly as the terminal draws them. MES and MNQ read the same levels as ES and NQ.
- Cadence: SPX and ES are rebuilt every second; NQ and the tickers carry a book rebuilt every five minutes and a price of the second.
- Gamma units are named by the API: millions of USD per index point for SPX and ES, USD per 1% move for NQ and the tickers. Compare bar lengths within one chart, not across charts.
Requests and limits
The levels API allows 120 requests a minute per token, counted across everything that uses it; an unchanged
reading answers 304 with no body and does not count. Every chart showing the same symbol with the same token shares one connection, so ten ES charts cost the same as one. At the default 5 s, one symbol with the gamma profile uses about 18 requests a minute, so about six symbols fit on one token.
Troubleshooting
| Status says | Meaning and fix |
|---|---|
key missing | No token in the settings. Paste it. |
key rejected | The token is mistyped, revoked or unknown. Create a new one on /account#integrations. A revoked token stops working within a minute. |
LIVE plan required | The account behind the token holds no active LIVE plan. The plugin keeps retrying and picks the plan up by itself. |
rate limited | More than 120 requests a minute on this token, counted across every chart, machine and script that uses it. Poll less often, draw fewer symbols, or give each tool its own token. The plugin waits as long as the server asks. |
symbol not covered | The chart's symbol is not one FirmTape covers, or it did not map. Type the symbol in the plugin's symbol setting; the list is /api/v1/symbols. |
no basis yet | ES or NQ early in the session, before the day's first basis measurement. It clears by itself. |
network error, retrying | No answer: offline, DNS, a proxy or a firewall. Allow https://firmtape.com on port 443. The plugin backs off up to two minutes and retries. |
closed, last session | Outside market hours. The lines are the last session's close. Nothing to do. |
STALE | Market hours, but the book has not moved for longer than it should. The lines are the last good reading and clear up when the book moves again. |
this chart's instrument has no FirmTape symbol | The instrument name did not map. Set Symbol override. |
Nothing in the indicator list | Wrong runtime build, or the DLL is blocked. Use the other build, Unblock the file, restart ATAS. |
Lines sit off the candles on ES or NQ | A back-adjusted or continuous chart. Use the front contract, unadjusted: FirmTape's ES and NQ levels are in the front contract's prices. |
No histogram | No strikes inside the visible price range, or the profile is off. Zoom out or scroll to price. |
